Rehearsals are underway for Sydney Contemporary Orchestra’s latest concert series and it’s sounding good! A lot of exciting new works being premiered, this Friday night 6 October at Verbrugghen Hall – come check it out!

With 60 passionate and dedicated musicians of the SCO, and directed by Dr Brian Chatpo Koo, the Contemporary Orchestral Music concert is an amazing opportunity to hear absolutely new orchestral music of contemporary composers from Brazil, Italy, USA, Colombia, Japan, and Australia. These composers will attend the concert and share their musical ideas, philosophies and creativity with each other and the Sydney audience.

Dear Friends,

Join Samantha Joseph (flautist) and Samantha Warhurst (soprano) for their latest winter concert, Songs of the Nightingale, at the cosy Campbell Street Presbyterian Church in Balmain.

Samantha and Samantha will be joined by the virtuoso pianist Glenn Amer as they present four stunning pieces, in four different languages, that are all inspired by the beauty of the Nightingale. These pieces will be interspersed amongst other favourite and fabulous arrangements for flute and soprano, including the spine-tingling ‘Consuelo’s Love Theme’.

As always, we invite you to join us for refreshments after the concert. We hope to see you there!

Happy New Year music lovers!!

Wishing you all a wonderful year filled with family, friends, and love.

I am looking forward to an exciting year ahead, and have already started the planning for upcoming concerts (we’ll let you know soon!). In the meantime, here is a snippet of Samantha Warhurst (soprano), Glenn Amer (piano) and myself performing The Prayer recently. I love this song – it is so hopeful – appropriate as we start a new year.

We dream a world without violence, a world of justice and faith. Everyone gives the hand to his neighbours. Symbol of peace, of fraternity. We ask that life be kind and watch us from above. We hope each soul will find, another soul to love.

Tosca @ The Independent Theatre

Tosca opens tonight! Come join us for one of Sydney’s operatic highlights for 2015!

Set in Rome in June 1800, with Rome threatened by Napoleon’s invasion of Italy, Puccini’s compelling and confronting opera Tosca narrows in on three characters, emotionally and politically bound in desire and betrayal.

When her lover, Cavaradossi, is captured by Rome’s secret police, Floria Tosca is forced to make a deal with police chief Scarpia. But Tosca decides that she will leave nothing to chance when it comes to saving her lover.

This Friday 25 September at 8pm: The Sydney Contemporary Orchestra Inc. (SCO) will be showcasing a wide selection of new contemporary works for orchestra at Verbrugghen Hall, Sydney Conservatorium. We will also be performing the beautiful Swan Lake Suite by Tchaikovsky in the second half. Book now to reserve your seats! (Details on my Concert Page).

The Sydney Contemporary Orchestra is an innovative orchestra for modern orchestral music. Supported by The SCO Foundation, the orchestra hosts regular charity concerts to promote new music compositions by the contemporary composers from all around the world.

Samantha Joseph (flautist) and Samantha Warhurst (soprano), together with pianist Glenn Amer, present Songs of Autumn.

Please join us on Sunday 1st March at 2pm for an uplifting afternoon featuring stunning operatic, musical theatre and jazz works, arranged for soprano, flute and piano.

The concert will be held at the beautiful Christ Church at Lavender Bay, a short walk from North Sydney Station, and plenty of on-street parking. Following the concert, you will be served complimentary champagne on the lawn, overlooking views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, while you enjoy the first afternoon ofAutumn.Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for concessions to be paid on the day (cash only), but they should be reserved by emailing info@samanthajoseph.com.au (for catering purposes please).

As I type, preparations are underway for a new concert collaboration between myself and Sydney-based soprano (and very good friend!) Samantha Warhurst. The concert is “Songs of Autumn” and will feature all our favourite opera, musical and jazz works for flute and soprano… with an Autumn-theme! How appropriate seeing as it will be on the 1st day of Autumn – put the date in your diaries!!

1st March, at Christ Church, Lavender Bay. Sydney. 2pm.
